Happy Birthday To Mom…
Filed by NinjaDoll on February 3rd, 2008

…and yay for the return of the Mikiepie NinjaDoll theme!

Yesterday was OSM’s 156th birthday. We celebrated by getting our hair cut (all three of us) at Rocco’s Hair Design at Westfield UTC. Getting a hair cut in a mall can be awful in Mira Mesa but this crew was pretty together and did an awesome job. The Kid’s style is short and very sassy, mine is short and actually looks pretty good. OSM’s is very short and she said she felt like her brain was empty now that her hair had been lopped off. Heh.

Even sassier!

The VUE got a spiff-up from the detailers at UTC who charged me all of $75 to wash, wax and detail my car. When I picked it up it was immaculate, far more immaculate than when it was detailed at work for more than double the price. The car is therefore primped and ready for today’s heavy showers =P

We thought about dessert at Yogurt World, which took us to Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, which took us to Crab Hut. The Korean restaurant in the building wasn’t going to open for another 20 minutes so I suggested that we try something completely different. What a blast! The sampler platter of fried seafood was humongous and the pound of King crab legs was superb (in garlic butter sauce since we don’t do cajun well). When I told the waiter it was stellar, he grinned. “I’ve heard awesome before but never stellar.” Both my hands were covered in butter and bits of seafood. Mom happily munched on shrimp and fried okra. The Kid dipped her french fries in water to get the spice off them and declared they were still good. I heartily recommend their clam chowder, too. But it’s a mess of a thing to do, eating there. Not the joint you’d pick for a first date or a business meeting.

It’s not like we did something truly special or celebrated in some calculated way. We simply spent the day at the mall and had a great little dinner. The crowning glory for mom’s birthday was the phone call from Tracy. That made her day. Er, night. Whatever. Mom was very, very glad to hear from you, ’ster.

To catch up on recent events: It’s been extremely busy at work as we wrap up preparations for the production cycle. Broos, Emily, Cat and I took a breather with a lovely dinner at Greystone The Steakhouse (located in lovely downtown SD) followed by Broos’ induction into the Extraordinary Desserts fan club. The food at Greystone was stellar - pricey but nicey - though I have to admit I’ve never had to put my hands in my cioppino before. Still, one cannot argue with a half-pound of lobster staring up from the most delectable broth one has ever tasted. One cannot.

For the kind of restaurant it purports to be, I must remind it to bring fresh napkins (don’t fold the old one) and never EVER come calling with moist towelettes after a $100 meal. They don’t do finger bowls, which is rather idiotic. They got the hot water and lemon right…I had to ask for them…but I dried my hands on a clean kitchen towel instead of clean linen. Rowr!
