I have finally been to Extraordinary Desserts and this was my choice. In the middle of a rainstorm, with Cat and Emily.

Stellar company, stellar cake. Yay, us!

I adored the movie, but no, that’s not what this is about. I’ve been admiring Cat’s and Junior’s ear piercings and, having an afternoon to myself (stolen, of course), decided to get my ear done as well.

On their recommendation I hied over to Enigma Professional Piercing in Pacific Beach and had them fix the upper ear piercing I’d gotten a couple of months ago and add another cartilage piercing on the inner flank (called a rook piercing). Yes, it hurt. But I R HAPI.

They also have a gorgeous collection of antique earrings from India and Pakistan, and new creations by local artists - a couple of whom used to work at the salon. I picked up hammered sterling swirly things that look like either a treble clef or an “S” depending on what you’re drinking and a pair of buffalo horn dangles that remind me of saxophones. Didier Suarez, who did my piercings, rocked. I envied the Indian urn in their piercing room (Didier, I’m serious, I will BUY IT if you sell it) which is at least 500 years old (or from Delhi and maybe 50 years old and covered in soot). He showed me his new book of ancient Indian piercings with plugs and danglers from 100 A.D. Aside from the three seconds of pain it was a stellar experience. And I now have a place to get awesome earrings! /indulge on!

Happily back at work
Filed by NinjaDoll on January 4th, 2008

There’s only so much of this staying at home stuff that I can take in one stretch. I’m debating the wisdom of having three consecutive weeks in the apartment with the Kid and OSM. Heh.

Didn’t get to do as much relaxing as I would’ve liked but I did manage to get some work done both for the day job and for my apartment.

On New Year’s Eve, OSM began pouting about not seeing huge fireworks displays from Waikiki Beach. So I drove everyone to First Night Escondido, held at the California Center for the Arts. It was a very nice affair, not the raging sea of bodies I’m used to from Honolulu. There were kid things to do, mom things to do, and lots of mediocre music that seemed better than it should have thanks to the event itself. We were able to find seats at a table with a bigoted group of cowbillies (ugly & wrinkled white women with red lipstick, wearing sparkling Stetsons and very cheap perfume). We were able to find better seats at another table with a sweet couple munching on funnel cake. The food booths offered a nice array of tasty stuff (OSM had never had funnel cake before and loved it). The weather remained pleasant. But at 11pm they all wanted to go home. I stared at them. The fireworks were an hour away! Ah, well.

When we got back to my car there was a ticket on the windshield that read, “in order to help prevent crime, please remember to roll up your car window.” I thought it was quite chic of the City of Escondido. Guess I pushed the wrong button and lowered a window instead of rolling it up.

On Wednesday I headed to the office with grateful glee. It was quiet there - not a kid or OSM in sight! It was sheer joy to be able to speak with a goober instead =)

How did you spend your holiday break?
