Forty-six and Facial!
Filed by NinjaDoll on August 28th, 2005

My dermatologist suggested I get myself some microdermabrasion treatments because I have a problem with little white bumps on my cheek. Mind you, he made this suggestion about six months ago, at a time where the thought of grinding my face with salt and vaccuuming it up through a suction hose did not sit well with me.

I’m glad I finally made an appointment and endured the pain. In four treatments, I’m told, I will have new skin. So long as it isn’t wrinkled skin I’ll be very happy. After this first treatment it is baby soft. Sorta red and swollen, but still baby soft, hehe!

He also put me on a new medication for those little white bumps called Tazorac, which is a psoriasis medication found to work well on acne. Having suffered through Differin (and its accompanying hair loss) and Retin-A (which did not make me look like Cher), this is my last hope for smooth skin. I’ll let you know how it works in about two months.

Oh, and there are a couple of chemical peels in my future, too, to get rid of some acne scarring. It’s nice to know my health insurance will pay for 90% of these treatments. Who needs a spa when one has a sympathetic skin guru? :D

The great chicken pox scare
Filed by NinjaDoll on August 22nd, 2005

Cyd complained about an itchy rash last night while taking a bath, and when I checked in I saw what looked to me like the classic beginnings of chicken pox. Given that I’ve got a mild case of shingles I figured the family germology was about to erupt as my doctor had warned. I phoned the school and made an appointment with the doctor, all the while thinking how strange that her dots were joining each other in some areas but not in others. The other parent had to take her to the clinic because in my contagious state I certainly didn’t want to be in the midst of children who may not have had all their shots.

It turns out that she has a severe case of the hives, though her doctor isn’t sure what’s causing it. Nothing about her habits have changed, her food’s been the same, her clothes have been the same. It may be viral, given that the physician has seen several cases of this in the past week. A little benadryl and some rest will do her good. By Wednesday she’ll be back in school.
