Because my landlord had pitched a hissy about our having a dog in the hovel, I’ve been kenneling the dog (renamed Kino by the child) at my offices. Kino’s been there for the past month, having a blast. My boss’s dog, Missy, visits often. The two of them love to romp together — Kino the playful puppy and Missy the aged matron. Most weekends Kino accompanies me home since no one seems to care that he’s there…go figure. This being a holiday weekend I was looking forward to having the dog with us because after Cyd has played herself to sleep, Kino and I would sneak out for long walks around the neighborhood — he’s good for my health
We have a rooftop office with lots of exterior space for a spry dog with any good sense of heights. Alas, Kino has no good sense of heights. Yesterday he chased a bird around the deck and managed to find himself in our parking lot without using the stairs. My boss hurried him to the nearby animal hospital and thankfully the only thing Kino suffered was a dislocated hip. Dr. Jane popped his hip back into place but wants to hold him over the weekend and see if the hip will stay put. If not, he faces an operation to stabilize the joint. He’s already facing two months of “quiet” rehabilitation :/
The child has taken all this rather well. I didn’t tell her how Kino dislocated his hip, just that it happened. We’re off to visit the pet and take it some treats.
