Top 10 Commercials
Filed by NinjaDoll on August 1st, 2010

I’ve referenced my Top 10 Commercials now and then through the years. Someone suggested I actually post them – oddly enough it never occurred to me to do this. But there ya go…new pages for the blog, filled with the absolutely useless information churning inside my brain =)

It’s only July so this year’s list is still compiling. There are some strict-yet-unscientific criteria for commercials to make the grade:

    1. I must be amazed by a key element of the commercial, be it music, message, cinematography, personality
    2. I must chuckle or cry or want strongly to do one or the other
    3. The commercial must be American in origin, even if it publicizes a foreign product or service, from a national campaign
    4. Only one commercial per advertiser; campaigns can be referenced but are not allowed to dominate the list
    5. No one needs to care about this =)

Which commercials have made your Top 10 this year?

Other Clients: Ford, Johnson & Johnson, Rolex, U.S. Marine Corps
Why: The music, the kid, and the gay guy who gapes

Coca-Cola: Sleepwalker
Agency: Wieden+Kennedy, Portland, OR
Other Clients: Electronic Arts, Levi’s, Target, Nike, Old Spice
Why: The hippo chomping the boat had great timing

Geico/Deadliest Catch: Caveman Cooks
Agency: The Martin Agency, Richmond, VA (Adweek’s 2009 US Agency of the Year)
Other Clients: freecreditreport.com, Pizza Hut, Tylenol, Walmart
Why: I adore “Deadliest Catch” and I adore a caveman who can properly plate!

Allstate: Pink SUV

Why: “Oh Em Gee! Becky’s not even hot!”

Chasing Mummies
Agency: In-house, The History Channel
Why: It’s cheesy but it’s Zahi Hawass, the most powerful man in Ancient Egypt, being cheesy
